Back in 2009, a lot of dope kicks were dropping exclusively overseas. One of these is the Air Jordan 3 True Blue, which is a retro of an OG colorway.
Another version would release later in the US with some minor differences in the elephant print and leather quality. As of the writing of this article, yet another retro is dropping on Black Friday with yet more changes. You’ll be able to easily tell the impending 2016 retro by the red liner behind the tongue (instead of blue) and the Nike Air branding on the back (instead of a Jumpman).
This patriotic shoe is really easy to rock. Besides Independence Day, these also work with any sort of grey/blue outfit. In this case I’m rocking a white Bape tee with red and blue detailing, a grey Lacoste hoodie and some jeans in a medium blue wash. I’m not a fan of the elongated tee look with these thanks to the blocky nature of 3s.
How Are The Materials?
The materials are actually decent on these! We have an ok quality synthetic leather and the suede/nubuck elephant print also on point. As we all know, the quality only goes down with each successive release, and these tanks are still holding up seven year and several wears later. Perhaps the only negative thing I can say about these could be said about all 3s; the midsole paint notoriously chips. There’s not much you can do about that though.
How Do They Fit?
The 2009 Air Jordan 3 True Blue fit true to size and are fairly comfortable. Jordan retros aren’t always known for comfort but 3s tend to be an exception. I honestly think that even back in the 80’s, the original 3s were probably the first actual comfortable Jordans. In any case, I recommend picking up any of the retros of this colorway as must haves in an Air Jordan 3 fan’s collection.
